WWAED- AME Zion Church

East Ghana Conference

The East Ghana Conference is one of the annual conferences under the Western West Africa Episcopal District (WWAED) of The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (A.M.E. Zion). Within the WWAED’s Ghana work, it stands alongside North Ghana, Mid-Ghana, and West Ghana as a key conference unit for church governance, mission, and growth.

Geographic coverage

The East Ghana Conference primarily serves A.M.E. Zion congregations across Greater Accra and the Volta Region, coordinating ministry and administration for churches and districts within these areas.

Mandate and identity

As part of the A.M.E. Zion connectional family, the Conference exists to:

  • Strengthen local congregations through supervision, pastoral support, and training

  • Advance evangelism and discipleship through structured programs at the church and district levels

  • Promote holistic ministry, combining spiritual formation with practical care for people and communities

Governance and conference structure

Like other A.M.E. Zion annual conferences, East Ghana Conference typically functions through:

  • Districts overseen by Presiding Elders, providing direct supervision and support to local churches

  • Pastors and local leadership, implementing ministry, administration, and outreach at congregation level

  • Conference-wide departments and societies (youth, women’s ministry, Christian education, missions, communications, etc.) that drive programs and events

Key ministries and community impact

East Ghana Conference is especially visible through its mission-driven departments, including W.H.&O.M.S. (Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society) and youth expressions such as YAMS (Young Adult Missionary Society). These groups support spiritual formation and practical outreach activities.
